Opera Unite – A New Web Server Technology Via Browser

Web itself recognized as a fayor of information and a portal for sharing and since last decade we have observed some most promising features launched, came our way, and now part of our lives. In other words, your computer (running Opera Unite) is truly part of the fabric of the Web, rather than just interacting with it, and it’s something anyone can use. With Opera Unite, everyday non-technical users can serve and share content and services directly from their own computers in the form of intuitive applications.”

In more simple words now you would be able to share any thing across the web with this amazing new technology from Opera. Interestingly  no special skills are required as this service is not for geeks only. It is made for simple non tech users with basic computer skills and you will find It’s just as easy as 1-2-3 and go.

Services

Unite offers you a bunch of services to share your stuff on the go, some of the pre-installed ones are as follows

  • File Sharing Service – This service is for simple file sharing but you can also share bunch of folders and sub-folders in one go, unlike sharing every file manually.
  • Fridge – Just like any other fridge note reminders people in your profile can leave notes on your computer.
  • Media player – It let you share your music collections with no hassle, which can be accessed anywhere around the globe.
  • Photo Sharing -  Share your photo albums with all the privacy and with no uploading at all.
  • Lounge – Create your personal chatting rooms with selected people on your profile and indulge with them in friendly conversations.
  • Web server – Host your personal website pages on your system and let the world access it instantly.

What We Will Need to Getting Started?

The Opera Unite icon in the browser UITo get most of this service all you need to have a internet connection and the Opera Browser installed (lab version). Now open the browser and click to the Panels button beside the first opened tab, now from the panels click the panel with Unite logo to open up the Unite Services dock.

Here you will need to signup for an account to access the Opera Unite services, or you can proceed if you have already one previously for other Opera Services. Once you are signed in you can choose the name of your PC for your all Unite sharing at one place. Your link for unite services will look like this:

Now you will be able to see the list of the sharing services they offer or you can get more of them from the official Opera Unite homepage.

Opera Security Concerns

There are almost no security concerns but the people on sharing side are  allowed to set 3 different security levels for their data such as music etc

  1. Public: With this your shared file will be available to everyone without any restriction.
  2. Limited: Your friends and colleagues can access it, as long as you give them the correct URL containing the password.
  3. Private: These files can only be accessed by you.
